FINE PRINT STUFF!

You must be 18 years old or older and be able to afford monthly dues ($40/mo) in order to  train with CQS or enter the league as a skater.  For insurance purposes, a liability waiver is required before skating in our practice space.  Required gear includes skates, elbow pads, wrist guards, knee pads, helmet and mouth guard (we have a limited supply of borrowed skates and gear that may be available for use until you can get your own).  If you are interested in purchasing skates, we recommend contacting a league skater for tips on preferred brands, getting cheaper second hand gear, etc.

Roller derby is a physically demanding sport.  Get in shape!  The more you skate, the better.  You can learn to skate by attending open skate at the Skate Station USA in Lexington (803-356-3500).  Normal rink fees apply.

Open Skate times at Skate Station USA

Monday: 6:30-8:30pm

Friday: 7:30-11:30pm

Saturday 10:30-12:30pm/2:00-5:00pm/ 7:30-11:30pm

League Expectations

If you choose to progress past the Fresh Meat class (meaning you pass assessments, rules testing, and can commit the time), you become a full CQS league member.  As a member of CQS, you can expect to attend at least two practices per week, as well as volunteering to help the league operate.  We currently practice Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday (Rookies only).  CQS has an A / B / C team structure, meaning there is always a place for every skater at whatever level you want to pursue–everyone gets to play!  You can try out for higher levels of gameplay within the league, but together all of CQS is a derby family.  Bumps and bruises are to be expected, but you will receive amazing support from some tough athletes!

 Moving to the Columbia area?

“My transfer to CQS has been one of the most exciting changes in my derby career. The process was simple and the Head of TC was super helpful. The members of the league are welcoming and feel like an instant extended family. I commute over an hour to skate with these fantastic ladies, and have never thought twice about it. I look forward to every time I lace up and take the track! -Star Spangled Bangrr
